Brazilian striker Raphinha scored twice to help Barcelona secure a 3-2 victory over Paris St Germain (PSG) in the first leg, the Champions League quarter-finals on Thursday 11 April morning WIB.

This result made the Blaugrana win for the first time in a game in the knockout stages of the Champions League in the last four years.

PSG star player Kylian Mbappe appeared less prominent at the Parc des Princes. The French national team captain's movement was successfully limited by Barca players. Mbappe even often looks frustrated in his attempts to attack.

Even though the home team started the game with high confidence, as they were unbeaten in the last 27 games in all competitions. But the visitors who were trying to return to the top of European football, successfully broke the record.

After recording brilliant results in the 2005 to 2015 season by winning four Champions League titles, Barca failed to pass the last 16 of Europe's elite competition in three consecutive seasons.

The Catalan club was even humiliated with a final score of 8-2 by the German elite team, Bayern Munich in the 2019-2020 quarter-finals.

"We should be proud to say that Barca is still alive," manager Xavi Hernandez told reporters.

"We understand how we have to work against one of the best teams in the world. It's a small advantage, but it's a win that generates more joy in our city and among our fans," he continued.

Xavi's side dominated the game from the start against the French team who were still looking for a way to win their first Champions League trophy.

Raphinha put the visitors ahead with a bouncing shot in the 37th minute after goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma missed a cross from the penalty box.

Donnarumma looked nervous throughout the game, and had a bad timing and made a mistake that almost left Barcelona scoring the opener early in the first half.

However, PSG's game seemed to change after a break with manager Luis Enrique, a former Barca player and coach, changing things and bringing in a Bradley Barcola striker to replace Marco Asensio.

The attacking change resulted in an equalizer in the 48th minute when former Barca player Ousmane Dembele slotted the ball into the top corner of the net.

Barca were still shaken when the hosts took the lead through Vitinha in the 50th minute, which put the ball in a quick counter-attack.

However, Raphinha's volley in the 62nd minute was a long pass from substitute Pedri again equalized 2-2, and silenced the home crowd's support.

Andreas Christensen, who came off the bench, headed the ball into Donnarumma's goal from a corner, 13 minutes before the game ended. The Spanish team took a narrow advantage ahead of next week's second leg.
