Indonesia Open 2024 Again Held At Istora Senayan

Istora Senayan has returned to the Indonesia Open 2024 (doc. GBK) title.

JAKARTA The Chairperson of the Implementing Committee, Armand Darmadji, ensured that the Indonesia Open 2024 will continue at Istora Senayan and not at the Indonesia Arena as previously planned.

The parent of international badminton, BWF, at the Indonesia Open 2023 had time to say goodbye to Istora. However, the latest certainty is that Istora will still be the arena for the Indonesia Open 2024.

"As chairman of the committee, I would like to provide information that it is very, very unfortunate that the Indonesia Open 2024 cannot be held at the Indonesia Arena. Not because we don't want it," said Armand in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

PBSI has actually brought players and a team of experts to the Indonesia Arena fit test to hold the Indonesia Open 2024 badminton tournament.

From the feasibility test, the team of experts asked the Bung Karno Complex Management Center (PPK-GBK) to turn the Indonesia Arena into a suitable use in accordance with BWF standards.

The request was then not granted by PPK-GBK. They said the desired structure to comply with these standards could not be installed at the Indonesia Arena.

"We received a PPK-GBK letter that we cannot hold events there because the structure cannot be installed there. We also cannot force it because it is risky," said Armand.

The plan is that PPK-GBK will continue to try to make improvements according to the criteria requested by PBSI and the expert team. Thus, there is a possibility that next year the place could be used for the badminton tournament.

Arena Indonesia is recorded to have a capacity of up to 16,088 spectators. This place was built for the FIBA World Cup 2023 event, when Indonesia hosted it with the Philippines and Japan.
