Zohri And Odekta Apparently Can't Get Wildcard To The 2024 Paris Olympics

JAKARTA Two running athletes Lalu Muhammad Zohri and Odekta Elvina Naibaho apparently did not get a wildcard to appear at the 2024 Paris Olympics as previously reported.

General Secretary of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI), Tigor M. Tunjung, said that Odekta and Zohri did not get wildcards.

However, they are still struggling through the qualifying path to get to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"Wildcard is given to countries whose athletes do not pass the qualifications," said the statement on Instagram.

The Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC) or the Indonesian Olympic Committee previously announced that the two names would appear in Paris later after being given a wildcard quota.

However, in reality Zohri and Odekta are currently still focused on finding tickets to France through the qualifying round.

In order to get a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Odekta Naibaho will compete at the Daegu Marathon which will take place in South Korea on April 7, 2024.

At the event, Odekta had to pursue a time limit of 2:26:50 seconds as a condition for qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"Currently, Odekta and Zohri are still focused on facing championships that are qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics," PB PASI wrote in their upload.

Thus, there are only seven Indonesian athletes who have confirmed themselves to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics which will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

They are male archery athletes Arif Dwi Pangestu, women's archery Diananda Choirunisa, artistic gymnastics athlete Rifda Irfanaluthfi, shooting athlete son Fathur Gustafian, male rock climbing athlete Rahmad Adi Mulyono, female rock climbing athlete Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, and surfer Rio Waida's son.
