3 Potential Sports To Win Gold For Indonesia At The 2024 Paris Olympics

JAKARTA There are three potential sports (sports) that have the opportunity to bring home a gold medal for Indonesia at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the middle of this year.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. Indonesia has prepared 13 sports to get tickets there.

In this year's edition, Indonesia has a target to make history get more than two gold medals for the first time in the world's largest multi-events.

In addition, the Red-White contingent also has the ambition to win gold medals from other sports, in addition to badminton. Historically, badminton is the only gold contributor for Indonesia at the Olympics so far.

Currently, only seven tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics have been secured by Indonesian athletes. This number is still far from the Red-White target that wants to pass more than 28 athletes there.

Here are three potential sports that have a great chance of getting gold in these four-year multi-events.

Badminton

Badminton still cannot be ruled out regarding their chances of getting gold. This sport has the most flashy historical record at the Olympics.

Of the eight gold medals that Indonesia has obtained so far at the Olympics, all of them come from badminton. Even though recently this sport's achievements have been in the spotlight, their chance in Paris will remain open.

This sport will rely on Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, and Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.

Jonathan is the 2024 All England champion. Anthony Ginting is the bronze medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Then, Fajar/Rian is also the 2024 All England champion. Finally, Apri/Fadia had the opportunity to make a surprise at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Weightlifting

This year, Indonesia's hopes of getting a gold medal are also in weightlifting. Especially in the 73 kilogram class which is inhabited by flagship athlete Rahmat Erwin Abdullah.

Rahmat is the current world record holder and world number one. At the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championship, he even won three gold medals and sharpened world records in his own name for the clean & jerk class.

At the event, Rahmat recorded a total force of 363 kilograms (snatch weighing 159 kilograms and clean & jerk 204 kilograms).

The clean & jerk class surpassed its own record of 201 kilograms, which he made when he won the 2022 Asian Games gold medal in Hangzhou, China.

Meanwhile, for the total force at the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championship, Rahmat broke the world record belonging to the Chinese lifter, Shi Zhi Yong, who was at 262 kilograms.

Rock Climbing

Indonesia can expect a lot from women's athletes number speed, Desak Made Rita. Desak got a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics when he appeared in the 2023 Rock Climbing World Championships in Bern, Switzerland.

At the event, Desak managed to come out as world champion in the women's speed number. He climbed the highest podium after eliminating the seedes on his way to the final.

Desak's current time is 6.49 seconds. Therefore, he is said to be one of Indonesia's mainstays to win the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics outside the badminton sport.
