Previously, in the 53rd minute, Erling Haaland had already broken into Gladbach's goal, but the goal was ruled out after VAR stated that the young Norwegian star had fouled Ramy Bensebaini in the attack process.
Gladbach started well and had at least two good chances through Lars Stindl and Marcus Thuram in the first 17 minutes, but both were secured by goalkeeper Marwin Hitz.
Hitz also made a brilliant save two minutes into the second half when the net was threatened by an accurate long-range shot from Alassane Plea.

Gladbach also tried to retaliate again in the 80th minute with another Plea shot which Hitz secured again, while three minutes later Haaland's shot outside the box was countered by goalkeeper Tobias Sippel.
Dortmund's advantage lasted until the end, unfortunately, they had to lose Mahmoud Dahoud who was sent off in the second minute of injury time for receiving a second yellow card.
