PSSI Chairman Responds To Negative Comments On The Inauguration Of The New Jersey Of The Indonesian National Team

JAKARTA - PSSI General Chair (Ketum) Erick Thohir responded to negative comments that had surfaced ahead of the inauguration of the new jersey for the Indonesian national team.

The latest jersey for the Indonesian national team was officially released on Monday, March 18, 2024. This moment was chosen because it is close to the agenda of the Indonesian national team appearing in the 2026 World Cup Qualification.

This jersey will also be used directly in the match against Vietnam on March 21 and 26, 2024.

Before the jersey was released, the design was leaked on social media. This triggers negative comments because the design is considered not to meet expectations, especially when compared to the previous jersey.

Responding to the comment, Erick Thohir responded coldly. He felt that differences of opinion were normal.

However, he believes that over time supporters will also like the new jersey, which is the Garuda Squad's "war dress".

According to the chairman of PSSI, the players feel comfortable with this newly released jersey. He also revealed that there was Shin Tae-yong's role in this design selection.

"Yes, there is (Shin Tae-yong's role), but the important thing is that I ordered the quality to be very much used by players. Earlier I asked the players one by one, they were comfortable," he said.

Regarding the design carried in this latest jersey, Erick said it combines many elements, especially from supporters. Most importantly, the quality of this jersey is satisfactory.

"I think we're trying to combine how we pushed local brands around the world. We have to be proud of local products," said Erick.
