JAKARTA - The act of racism experienced by Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior allegedly committed by supporters of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona has now been reported by Real Madrid to the relevant authorities.
"Real Madrid CF has filed a complaint with the Spanish State Prosecutor's Office for hate violations and discrimination relating to racist and hate abuse directed at our player Vinicius Junior," the club's official statement said as reported by AFP, Friday (15/3) local time.
"Real Madrid condemns the violence of racism, discrimination and hatred... which unfortunately has been a recurring and sustainable concern for some time," the statement continued.
Launching ANTARA, Saturday, March 16, the report emerged after a video circulating on social media showing Vinicius' racist chants by fans outside the Atletico Madrid Metropolitan Stadium before the Champions League match against Inter Milan on Wednesday (13/3).
On Thursday (14/3), the 23-year-old asked the Champions League and European football's governing body UEFA to take action on the racist video.
"This is a sad reality that happened even during the game where I was not present," Vinicius wrote in a post on social media X.
