Surabaya Samator Absent At Proliga 2024

Proliga 2024 will not be followed by Surabaya Samator (doc. Proliga).

JAKARTA The Indonesian Volleyball Association (PBVSI) has confirmed that the men's legendary volleyball club, Surabaya Samator, is absent from the prestigious 2024 Proliga competition.

In an official statement, the national volleyball federation confirmed that the Garuda Jaya club will fill the vacant slot left by Surabaya Samator so that a total of seven men's teams will be contestants this season.

Garuda Jaya is prepared to become Indonesia's representative at the U-20 Asian Championships. This team is filled by players with an average age of 19 years.

Given the time of national training (pelatnas) which is already very tight, this team is prepared through the 2024 Proliga competition.

"We no longer have time to do the national training to face the Asian Championships," said Deputy Chair of PP PBVSI Achievement Development Division, Loudry Maspaitella.

The other six men's teams that will compete with Garuda Jaya are Jakarta LavAni Allo Bank, Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi, Jakarta BIN, Jakarta Pertamina Pertamax, Palembang Bank SumselBabel, and Kudus Sukun Badak.

This number is the same as the women's team that will participate in the highest caste of the volleyball league in Indonesia. One of them is the defending champion team Bandung BJB Tandamata.

Meanwhile, the other six women's teams participating were Jakarta Pertamina Enduro, Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk Indonesia, Jakarta Popsivo Polwan, Jakarta BIN, Jakarta Electric PLN, and newcomer Jakarta Livin Mandiri.

Proliga 2024 will start on April 25 to July 21, 2024. The matches will be held in nine cities in Indonesia.

Five of the nine cities will hold regular rounds, namely Yogyakarta, Semarang, Palembang, Pontianak, Bandung, Gresik, and Surabaya. Meanwhile, the final four to the grand final round will take place in Kediri, Solo, and will be closed in Yogyakarta.
