JAKARTA The All-Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI) is quite optimistic that it can pass two more athletes, one son and one daughter, to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This was conveyed by the General Chairperson of the FPTI, Yenny Wahid, during the inauguration of the new federation management for the period 2023-2027 at Wisma Kemenpora, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, March 4, 2024.

"We hope, yes (to add two more athletes). There are still two more qualifying events, one in Europe and the other in China, which can be followed. We hope that we can get two more tickets. So, there are four," said Yenni.

Two qualifications that could be an opportunity for FPTI to add their athletes in Paris will be the 2024 Shanghai Olympic Qualifier Series on 16-19 May 2024 and the Budapest Olympic Qualifier Series on June 20-23 June 2024.

Yenny said the opportunity to add long cliff athletes to Paris will be very wide open. He emphasized that there are so many potential athletes' stocks that it is not impossible to achieve this target.

"We still have a lot of athlete reserves that are no less great. In fact, achievements have exceeded athletes who have already received tickets," said Yenni.

Yenny was re-elected as General Chair of the FPTI for the period 2023-2027 in December 2023. He got the most votes in the national deliberation (Munas) which took place in Cikarang, West Java.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, after the inauguration ceremony hoped that the rock climbing branch under Yenny's leadership could maximize their efforts to add their athletes to Paris.

"Currently we at the Ministry of Youth and Sports hope that FPTI will prepare athletes to Paris. Hopefully, two more athletes will qualify. In addition to qualifying, returning home must also bring a gold medal," he said.

Currently, there are two rock climbing athletes who have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The two athletes are Rahmad Adi Mulyono and Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi.

Rahmad qualified after winning the IFSC Asian Qualifier 2023 rock climbing championship in the speed number. Meanwhile, Desak won the IFSC Rock Climbing World Championship in Bern, Switzerland, August 2023.
