Gregoria Mariska Tunjung Tegas Ahead Of The 2024 Paris Olympics

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung has a great chance to go to the 2024 Paris Olympics (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Indonesian women's singles badminton player, Gregoria Mariska, Tunjung admitted that she was tense ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics which took place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

Gregoria is the only Indonesian women's singles with a great chance of getting tickets to the world's largest four-year multi-event. The athlete from Wonogiri remains tense even though he has already appeared at the Olympics.

"It feels like time is getting faster. I am tense so I need to ask people for help to tell me about my burden," said Gregoria when met at the Cipayung PBSI National Training Center.

Gregoria previously appeared at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. However, at that time his journey stopped in the round of 16 after losing against Thailand's representative, Ratchanok Intanon.

The 2017 junior world champion said he had a more specific target at the 2024 Paris Olympics after getting unsatisfactory results in Japan.

"At the previous Olympics I was not in the position now. From personal targets and people outside, I definitely wanted targets more than four years ago," he said.

"I will try my best to enjoy the process before really getting there. This is not an easy way for all athletes, but I want to prove it," he said.

Furthermore, Gregoria said that in order to get that target, she would also try to avoid injury so that she could perform optimally at the 2024 Paris Olympics. "Maintaining health. I have started consecutive matches from last year. Then, the end of the qualification (Olympics) in April 2024 at Badminton Asia Championship (BAC)."

"However, after that there was still a match. So, I tried my best to take better care of myself," he said.

Badminton is a sport that is Indonesia's mainstay in the Olympics. This sport always maintains the tradition of Indonesia's gold medal from edition to edition.

Women's singles once contributed a gold medal through Susi Susanti. The medal was obtained during the Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, in 1992.
