Opportunities For Marcus/Kevin To Unite Again Remains An Enigma

Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo returned to the Cipayung PBSI National Training Center (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA The chances of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo returning to play as a couple in the men's doubles sector are still ensemble.

PBSI has not been able to confirm the fate of the couple, who is still on the Cipayung national training camp (Pelatnas) list.

"I will definitely ask Kevin/Marcus again whether they are still playing or not. Regarding certainty, I can't confirm either," said Aryono Miranat, head coach of the men's doubles.

Marcus/Kevin returned to Cipayung National Training Center when PBSI announced the names of promotional and relegational players earlier this year.

However, the pair nicknamed The Minions are still absent from training and competing together since January 2024. Until now they have not even been registered to participate in the tournament.

Aryono said that Marcus/Kevin's decision to get back together again or not is entirely in the hands of the two badminton players.

"We also respect them. They may also think in the future how because of their current age and performance. Whether it will continue or not, we also don't know," said Aryono.

"They decide whether to continue or stop. Later I will reiterate how to position them," he said.

Marcus/Kevin were one of the most frightening men's doubles pairs when they were still together. They were at the top of the BWF rankings list.
