Indonesia Masters 2024: Gregoria Embarrassed To Lose In Quarter Finals

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung failed to reach the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Gregoria Mariska Tunjung's women's singles felt embarrassed after they ran aground in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Masters 2024 against Japan's Nozomi Okuhara.

Gregoria lifted the suitcase after losing two straight games with a score of 20-22 and 11-21 against the former world champion at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, January 26, 2024, afternoon WIB.

Gregoria said he was not satisfied with his appearance in the match. He said the most disappointing was the second game because he did not put up a fierce fight against the opponent.

"First, maybe what I feel now, is disappointed with the appearance. Apart from being disappointed, I'm also ashamed. I shouldn't be that easy to give up," he said after the match.

"I feel that with my current position in the top 10 (BWF ranking), I can't show it like I showed in the second game," he said.

After putting up a tight fight in the first game, Gregoria was actually left behind from the start in the second game. His declining appearance made his opponent easily score points.

"I was very easy to throw away the ball, it felt like when the points were far away, I fell even with it. I couldn't get up. I showed it so maybe it could be a weapon for the opponent," said Gregoria.

Gregoria is the second representative of Indonesia to be eliminated from the quarter-finals in this Super 500 level event. Previously, the mixed doubles Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati had already run aground.

Gregoria's fate made the Indonesian women's singles in this event run out. Therefore, the women's singles had to return to fasting for the title since Adriyanti Firdasari became the champion at the Indonesia Masters in 2014.
