Qualifying For The Carabao Cup Final, Liverpool Keep Asa Achieved 'Quadruple'

JAKARTA - Liverpool maintain the hope of winning quadruple or four trophies this season after stepping into the Carabao Cup final. Liverpool will meet Chelsea to fight for the trophy.

The English League Cup or Carabao Cup is Liverpool's first target. Because the Reds also maintain opportunities in the FA Cup which enter the fourth round and Europa League.

Liverpool are also at the top of the 2023/2024 Premier League standings. Liverpool, who have 48 points, are already five points ahead of Manchester City. Only, the defending champion who is in second place still has one match.

Liverpool advanced to the Carabao Cup final after drawing 1-1 against Fulham in the semifinals of the second leg at Craven Cottage Stadium, Thursday, January 25, 2024, early morning WIB.

Liverpool took the lead through Luis Diaz. Fulham was only able to equalize the score after Issa Diop scored a goal in the second half.

The result made Liverpool 3-2 on aggregate. The reason is, in the semifinals of the first leg at Anfield, The Kop won 2-1.

"A fantastic match. The performance of the players is really special. The two teams both played openly. However, in the second half the opposing players played more aggressively," said Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp.

"We had a hard time scoring. On the other hand, the opponent could equalize. However, the kids played very well. I am happy with their performance," said the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

"It's not time to show the best game," Klopp said in response to the team's performance which was not optimal.

Liverpool still have not been strengthened by Mohamed Salah, who has a hamstring injury. In that match, Klopp also fielded more young players or coatings.

"The important thing about this match is that we can qualify for the final," said Klopp again.

Regarding Chelsea, Klopp said the team could not underestimate the opponent who qualified for the final.

According to him, the match will be interesting. Apart from being a repeat of the 2022 final, they are a member of the big six, namely the elite English League club group.

"The match against Chelsea will be interesting. I told the players not to underestimate the opponents who qualify for the final and want to win trophies," he said.

Liverpool themselves hold a record nine-time Carabao Cup or English League Cup winners who are the third caste tournaments. The winning team will compete in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

If Liverpool qualify for the Champions League, the club will automatically compete in Europe's highest caste.
