JAKARTA Chef de Mission Anindya Bakrie wants the number of Indonesian athletes who will appear in the 2024 Paris Olympics to be the same as the previous edition or even more.
The most prestigious four-year multi-branch event will take place from July 26 to August 11. Indonesia currently only gets five tickets to this event.
Anindya said the qualification process for several sports to get tickets there is still ongoing until next May.
"Yesterday in Tokyo 28 athletes. So, hopefully it will be the same again. There are still six months left so hopefully the qualification can increase the number of athletes," he said in Jakarta, Friday, January 5.
Indonesia itself looks at the Paris Olympics with high hopes of making history. The Red and White team is targeted to be able to bring home more than two gold medals for the first time in history.
Indonesia's previous best achievement at the Olympics was two gold medals at Barcelona 1992 through badminton. The two athletes who brought home the achievement were Susy Susanti and Alan Budikusuma.
"Previously we got the highest two gold medals. So, hopefully this time we can get more gold medals," said Bakrie.
