Ferrari Boss Denies Rumors Of Approaching Lewis Hamilton

JAKARTA Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur has denied rumors that they are approaching seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Prior to signing a new contract with Mercedes in August 2023, Hamilton was linked with a 40 million move to Ferrari.

The rumor arose because Vasseur had previously worked with Hamilton. He was listed as part of the team when the Briton won the 2006 GP2 title at ART.

That relationship made Vasseur and Hamilton continue to communicate to date. However, their communication was both exaggerated.

"I talk to Lewis every week or every month for 20 years. So, I can't say that we don't communicate because we're always in touch," he was quoted as saying by Crash.

Hamilton in the last two seasons has really been slumping with Mercedes in Formula 1. This season they haven't even made a single win for the first time since 2013.

The result contrasts with the very successful period of Mercedes from 2014 to 2020, which they always win titles every year.

"I discussed with Lewis in the paddock in Baku and it started spreading everywhere. If he signs a contract with me every time we talk before that it means it will spend a lot of money!" Vasseur said.

Ferrari is still expected to keep two of their riders, namely Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz until 2025.

Vasseur said he hoped the new deal with the two names could be done before next season's first race.

"It could be the target (that the new agreement was agreed upon with the two) before the first race (in Bahrain in March 2024)," he said.
