BWF World Tour Finals 2023 Results: Jonathan Christie Loses, Hopes For Indonesian Representatives To The Finals Pupus

Jonatan Christie failed to reach the final of the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals after losing against Shi Yuqi (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Indonesia's hope to go to the final of the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals has disappeared. Jonatan Christie, who became the only focus, also ran aground in the semifinals.

Jonathan lost to China's singles, Shi Yuqi, two straight games with a score of 16-21 and 15-21.

At the beginning of the first game, the match was tight until the score was equally strong 4-4. Shi Yuqi had time to stay away now that Jonathan finally equalized 10-10 again.

In fact, Jojo, Jonatan Christie's nickname, took the interval with an 11-10 advantage. After the break, chasing numbers was inevitable.

The match was back to a 13-13 draw before finally Shi Yuqi shot up. He was not overtaken anymore and always excelled until he touched game point 20-16.

On the first occasion, the world's third-ranked single immediately resolved Jonathan's resistance with a score of 21-16.

In the second game, the tight match was only presented at the beginning at 2-2. After that, Shi Yuqi moved away by a landslide difference of 11-4 at the interval.

Jojo did not get the moment to get closer. The closest difference is only two points when he is 14-16 behind.

Shi Yuqi was able to continue to maintain the advantage until he finally got the match point at 20-15. Again, he completed his first chance to close the second game with a score of 21-15.

The Chinese singles stepped into the final of the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals to meet the winner between Viktor Axelsen vs Anders Antonsen.

Meanwhile, Jonathan, who is Indonesia's last hope, must come home with his colleagues.

Previously, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto also ran aground in the semifinals against China's doubles, Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang.

Other Indonesian badminton players have even died in the group stage. Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva, Anthony Ginting, and Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri only ranked third and fourth in the group.

This failure extends Indonesia's poor record at the BWF World Tour Finals. Since its implementation in 2018, only one Indonesian badminton player has been able to penetrate the final and champion.

The only BWF World Tour Finals title in the Indonesian storefront came from the victory of Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan in the men's doubles number. They won it in the 2019 edition.

The failure of Indonesia's representatives to reach the top party is the second time. Previously, none of Indonesia's badminton players reached the final in the first edition, the 2018 BWF World Tour Finals.
