Iga Swiatek Has Been Named The Best Player In 2023

Iga Swiatek has been named the WTA Player of the Year 2023 or the Best Player of the Year this year (Instagram/@iga.swiatek).

JAKARTA The world number one, Iga Swiatek, was selected as WTA Player of the Year 2023 or Best Player of the Year this year by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).

The Polish athlete won the award for the second year in a row after ending this season as world number one tennis player.

Throughout this year, Swiatek has won the title of Roland Garros, WTA Finals, as well as four other WTA titles each from Beijing, Doha, Stuttgart, and Warsaw.

Swiatek is the first player since Serena Williams won this award in a row.

Serena was previously named a similar title for four consecutive years between 2012 and 2016.

Swiatek got the Best Players this year after defeating tennis players such as Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Jessica Pegula.

Sabalenka and Gauff also won the Grand Slam title this year. The Belarusian tennis player won the Australian Open, while Gauff triumphed at home by lifting the US Open title at Flushing Meadows.

Meanwhile, the awards for the 2023 Best Doubles were awarded to Storm Hunter andtenswas. The pair won two WTA 1000 titles this year.

Zheng Qin Wen was awarded the Most Developed Player or Most Improved Player. The 21-year-old won his first WTA title at Palermo and closed this year by winning a gold medal at the Asian Games and reaching the WTA Elite Trophy final.

Then, Mirra Andreeva was awarded the Newcomer of this year's WTA or WTA Newcomer of the Year.

The 16-year-old managed to break into the top 50 after starting this year outside the top 400.

Next, Elina Svitolina, who won the award for Best Player of Comeback in 2023 after returning to action last April after a break in childbirth.

The Ukrainian won the title just a month after returning to the pitch in Strasbourg.

He then advanced to the quarter-finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon's semifinals after defeating Swiatek.
