PB PABSI Send 11 Athletes To IWF Doha For The 2024 Paris Olympics Qualification
PB PABSI fielded 11 weightlifters at the IWF Grand Prix II 2023 Doha (doc. NOC Indonesia).

JAKARTA The Executive Board of the Indonesian Weightlifting Association (PB PABSI) sent a total of 11 athletes to the IWF Grand Prix II 2023 Doha, Qatar.

The championship, which took place from 4-14 December 2023, is part of the qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Head of the Indonesian Team Weightlifting Coach, Dirdja Wihardja, explained that his party had set the best strategy so that more Indonesian lifters could appear in Paris.

"So, we fielded 11 athletes, four of whom will compete in two classes, namely 49 kg of women and 55 kg of men today, around the evening until the evening of WIB."

"All lifters are ready and hopefully they can record the total best lift in Doha," said Dirja in a statement received.

Of these, each consists of five male lifters and six female lifters. The male athletes who took part in the event were Satrio Adi Nugroho, Muhammad Ibhul Rizqih, Eko Yuli Irawan, Ricko Saputra, and Rahmat Erwin Abdullah.

Meanwhile, six female lifters, including Siti Nafisatul Hariroh, Juliana Klarisa, Natasya Beteyob, Sarah, Tsabitha Alfiah Ramadani, and Nurul Akmal.

The trip to Paris from the weightlifting sport will be taken from the total ranking of lifters in the tournament that has been determined by the IWF.

Only lifters who enter the top 10 in mid-2024 can appear on the Paris Olympics stage. With a note, the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC) can only place one lifter in each class.

Based on the latest ranking issued by IWF, only two Indonesian lifters are in a safe position. The two athletes are Eko Yuli Irawan (third place in the men's 61 kg class) and Rahmat Erwin Abdullah (first place in the 73 kg class).

Therefore, other lifters are expected to strengthen their position. One of them is Nurul Akmal (+87 kg of women). Currently Nurul is still in 11th place and only 3 kg adrift of the lifter who is ranked 10.

"Hopefully with the total force in Doha, he can enter the top 10. Likewise others, we also have black horse stock which is part of our strategy," said Dirja.

Currently, Indonesia has secured five tickets to appear in the world's most prestigious four-year multi-sports.

They are FARmers Arif Dwi Pangestu and Diananda Choirunisa, artistic gymnasts Rifda Irfanalutfi, as well as sports climbing athletes Desak Made Rita and Rahmad Adi Mulyono.
