WBA Executive Committee Forms Super Explorer Class Division

WBA announced the super cruiserweight as a new class (doc. WBA).

JAKARTA The Executive Committee of the World Boxing Association (WBA) officially approved the formation of a new division named super cruiseweight.

This announcement was made after the voting was held at the Executive Committee Session. At the meeting of the world boxing body, all agreed to form a super cruiserweight division.

"The World Boxing Association (WBA) Executive Committee approved the formation of a super cruiserweight division in the vote requested by the WBA President, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza," the WBA statement was reported by Boxing Scene.

This super cruiserweight division will later stand between cruiserweight (86.2 kg-90.7 kg) and heavyweight (without weight limit).

The class limits the weight from 200 to 224 pounds or 99.8 kg to 101.6 kg. This is done by WBA because in fact there are often heavyweight duels followed by two boxers who have very large weight differences of up to 20 pounds or 9 kg.

The association conducted several analyses over the past few months before filing a vote.

This new vision will weigh between 200 and 224 pounds and be among the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions, continued the statement.

The formation of this new division will primarily help avoid a fight where fighters enter the ring with excessive weight differences. As sometimes happens in the heavyweight class, where there is a difference of 20 pounds or more," they added.

This WBA move follows the WBC which in 2020 has formed a new division called bridgerweight.

The existence of this new class allows duels to take place in a draw and fair manner between two boxers whose weight does not exceed that of the opponent.

Following this announcement, the WBA has also reportedly started compiling ranking lists for heavyweights with low weight or cruiserweights that exceed.
