Erling Haaland Sets A Goal Record In The Champions League, Pep Guardiola: Fantastic Player!

JAKARTA - Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has set a goal record in the Champions League. Haaland is believed to continue to set records until Manager Pep Guardiola admits he is tired of answering the same question about his flagship goal engine.

Haaland scored one goal in Man City's 3-2 win over RB Leipzig in the 2023/2024 Champions League Group G match.

At the duel at the Etihad Stadium, Wednesday, November 29, 2023, early morning WIB, Haaland's goal was the beginning for Man City to turn things around after trailing 0-2.

Haaland's goal also made the Norwegian national team striker score 40 goals in the Champions League. He also became the fastest player to score 40 goals in the Champions League.

Haaland only needed fewer games to achieve the goal target, which was 35 games. He broke the goal record for Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored 40 goals in 45 matches.

Previously, he was also the fastest when he scored his 50th goal in the match against Liverpool which ended in a 1-1 draw. This time, Haaland broke the record for another MU goal machine, Andy Cole.

Haaland was able to reach that goal collection in just 48 games, while Andy Cole scored 50 goals in the 65th term.

"Again? I have to say that again?" Guardiola said with a laugh when asked for comment about Haaland.

"It's been thousands of times, I've really impressed (to Haaland). We won the game, he broke the record. Congratulations to him," said Guardiola.

Guardiola called Haaland a fantastic player. His achievements also helped Man City qualify for the last 16 of the 2023/2024 Champions League.

"He's a fantastic player. I've said it many times, we're very happy with his achievements," he said again.

"We like him, not only because of the goals he scored, but a lot of things," said Guardiola.

Guardiola also highlighted Man City's poor performance, especially in the first half against Leipzig. They could concede up to two goals scored by Lois Openda.

This is the first time since the match in the Champions League in 2018 when Man City conceded two goals and then bounced back to turn things around.

He hopes the players learn from the match. Despite winning, the former Barcelona coach did not want the team's game to tend to go up and down.

"Winning in this match is really not fun. We have to talk in front of the mirror and say, we have to play even better. We will face an unknown opponent in the round of 16. We may host in the second match," he said.
