JAKARTA Italy beat Australia to re-up the Davis Cup after 47 years.
The Davis Cup title was brought home Italy after their flagship tennis player, Jannik Sinner, won 6-3 and 6-0 over Alex de Minaur in Malaga, Spain, Sunday, November 26, 2023 local time.
This result made Italy win with a landslide score of 2-0. The first point for Sinner and his friends was previously secured by Matteo Arnaldi who beat Alexei Popyrin 7-5, 2-6, and 6-4.
"This is a great feeling for all of us, obviously we are very happy," said Sinner as quoted by BBC Sport.
This is the second time Italy has lifted Davis Cup. Previously, they won the title in 1976.
Meanwhile, this failure made Australia fail to win the 29th Davis Cup title. It was also their successive defeat in the final after losing the top match against Canada last year.
