Dewa United Banten Wants To Win The Title At IBL 2024

JAKARTA - Dewa United Banten Basketball, a team that has only competed in the Indonesia Basketball League (IBL) since 2021, has high ambitions to win the title in the 2024 season. Although it has not had a dozen years of experience like other big teams, Dewa United has shown impressive quality in recent years.

In their first season in 2021, Dewa United finished fourth in the IBL final standings for the regular season. They were able to secure a place in the playoffs. As a debutant team, this achievement deserves appreciation, especially after successfully advancing to the semifinals, even though they finally lost to an experienced team, Pelita Jaya Bakrie Jakarta.

The following year, Dewa United Surabaya again penetrated the 2022 IBL playoffs and ended up in seventh place in the regular season. Even though they lost in the quarter-finals to Prawira Bandung, the failure did not damage the team's reputation.

Moving headquarters to Banten in the third year, Dewa United again ranked fourth in the 2023 IBL standings. Despite losing in the semifinals to Prawira Harum Bandung, this achievement marked the team's consistency in reaching the playoffs.

In preparation for IBL 2024, Dewa United is active in the 2023 transfer market by bringing in a number of key players, including Rio Disi, Patrick Nikolas, Samuel Devin, and Febrianus Gregorry Khiandio. Hadrianus Lakudu, an experienced player with four IBL titles, also became the last signing to strengthen the squad.

Experienced coach Pablo Daniel Favarel, who has the achievement of leading the team to the title in Venezuela's basketball league, was appointed head coach to maximize the potential combination of young and experienced players at Dewa United.

The team not only focused on domestic preparation, but also underwent trials in the Philippines against Southeast Asian level teams, including Terafirma, DYIP, and NorthPort from the Philippine professional basketball league (PBA). Previously, Dewa United had faced RANS in a warm-up match that ended in a 70-63 victory.
