JAKARTA Saudi Arabia has become the strongest candidate to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup after the Australian Football Federation (FA) withdrew from offering the host candidate.

Australia withdrew from its candidacy on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. This step is for them to focus on the 2026 Women's Asian Cup bidding and the 2029 Club World Cup.

"We believe we are in a strong position to host the world's oldest female international competition, the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup," the FA wrote in a statement.

"And then [ready to] welcome the greatest teams in the world of football to the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup," the statement continued.

Australia's decision to withdraw from hosting the 2034 World Cup will automatically make Saudi Arabia the only country to participate in the tender for the four-year prestigious event.

Saudi Arabia made offers minutes after the FIFA international football body opened up on October 4 by prioritizing countries from Asia and Oceania.

Australia on the other hand wants to participate in proposing to host together with New Zealand. Indonesia later claims to have started discussions with Australia to co-host with Malaysia and Singapore.

Even so, a week later Indonesia issued a new statement supporting Saudi Arabia to host the most prestigious event in the world.
