JAKARTA Tennis sports fans in Indonesia certainly still remember Yayuk Basuki's name. Yes, he is the queen of Indonesian tennis in the 1990s who was able to penetrate the last eight of the 1997 Grandslam Wimbledon.

Even though Yayuk has been hanging up his racket since 2004, Yayuk apparently still pays attention to the development of the world of sports in Indonesia. He hopes that Indonesia will be able to produce superior seeds both in tennis and in other sports.

Well, to make this happen, Yayuk has one solution, namely stunting prevention. So, what is the relationship between stunting and superior seeds in the field of sports? According to Yayuk, to have superior seeds in sports, you must pay attention to nutritional intake from babies to the age of children.

They must pay attention to their nutritional intake, before we guide and direct them to the sports sector. This is not only the duty of the government, but also the stakeholders and sports coaches so that regeneration is maintained," he said in a written statement, Sunday, October 1.

The general chairman of the Indonesian Olympian Association (IOA) 2022-2026 admitted that he wanted to play an active role in stunting prevention. Because when he was still active as a tennis player, he felt that he often left his baby to carry out state duties as a professional tennis player. It doesn't mean I let go. I keep on monitoring when I'm busy, and my husband does assistance to children at home when I'm not at home," Yayuk added.

Therefore, he emphasized that the stunting prevention and reduction program is something that cannot be negotiated and must be carried out immediately. The difficulty of reducing the stunting rate is called Yayuk because there are still families who are embarrassed to admit that their children are stunted.

However, he is optimistic that the acceleration of stunting reduction of up to 14 percent in 2024 can be realized. This is because Yayuk assesses that the BKKBN is very massive in building partnerships and mobilizing components of the nation to accelerate stunting reduction. Not to mention the support of President Joko Widodo who is very concerned about the accelerated stunting reduction program.

"Children are the future of this nation, including in the sports sector. It will be a shared concern if we cannot reduce the stunting rate. That is also one of the reasons I am willing to become the Ambassador of the Mother of Foster Stunting," concluded Yayuk Basuki.
