Harris Was About To Retire From Wushu Before Getting Asian Games Gold

JAKARTA Atlet wushu Harris Horatius had wanted to retire before rising and prove himself to have won the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games Hangzhou, China.

The desire to quit his career in the world of sports has emerged since he was ranked ninth in the number Nanquan and Nangun at the 2018 Asian Games which took place in Jakarta-Palembang.

However, that wish melted due to the support of the Indonesian Wushu family, coaches, and management. As a result, he was able to get gold in China.

"A lot has happened over the past four years, up and down in life. I also wanted to stop, but thank God there were people who supported, parents, coaches, all administrators supported," he said.

"They say that Harris can still and I believe in them, they have hopes so what they expect me to do my best," the 25-year-old added.

After failing to retire, Harris began to seriously continue his career. Training after training continues with focus until it produces results at this four-year event.

During that period, he achieved several achievements. Among them are the duliian world champion in Shanghai 2019, the third ranked in the world men's nanogun 2019, and the gold medal in the men's duliian number at the 2019 SEA Games Hanoi.

In the same year he also received silver nanocone, nandao & nganguan at the 2019 SEA Games. Then finally the silver medal in the nandao number and nanogun all around the 2023 SEA Games Cambodia.

Harris did a long struggle. Not only training, but also the struggle to stay away from his beloved family.

"The most difficult thing is to stay away from my family, because I have a family. It's been three months until today I haven't come home," he said.

Harris, 27 years old, confirmed the third gold for Indonesia at the 2023 Asian Games after ranking the highest in the number nkun and ngun with a total of 19,506 points.
