Indonesian Men's Doubles Sluggish, This Factor Becomes A Spotlight

JAKARTA - Indonesia's men's doubles performance in the last few tournaments has been unsatisfactory. There is no title that can be presented yet.

In fact, in several tournaments, none of the Red and White men's doubles were able to reach the final. The latest at the China Open 2023 event.

Indonesian men's doubles coach Aryono Miranat highlighted technical factors and self-confidence as things that must be further improved.

"Broadly speaking, overall what needs to be paid attention to is the technical factors. The issue of self-confidence and confidence in playing needs to be improved further. Consistency in the game comes when we are confident," said Aryono as quoted by Antara.

Furthermore, the technical problems that need to be addressed are defense and hitting accuracy which are considered to need to be even better.

"In training later, I have planned to add accuracy training. We also have to be able to play again in front of the net," said the coach who is familiarly nicknamed Coach Naga Air.

Apart from that, Aryono also highlighted the men's doubles pairs under his care. For the pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, who are currently number one in men's doubles in the world, Aryono believes that they are starting to feel the pressure of this status.

"For Fajar/Rian, I see that there is pressure on them as number one players, especially since recently the graph has been unstable. This has resulted in their self-confidence dropping. I will try to raise their competitive mentality, their spirit of not wanting to lose will come out again," said Aryono.

Meanwhile, for the pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin and Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan, the coach assessed that each of them had problems in playing spirit and communication.

Furthermore, for the pair Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, the coach assessed that their best game had returned and was stable, both in terms of fighting spirit and playing patterns.

"It just requires more consistency and self-confidence. How can Fikri control the front area better and Bagas with his hard punches can become a weapon at the back. On the other hand, their unforced errors must also be minimized," said Aryono.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's men's doubles progress was stopped in the last eight of the 2023 China Open, represented by Bagas/Fikri. Meanwhile, Pram/Yere could only advance to the round of 16 after losing to Bagas/Fikri.
