JAKARTA - Barcelona have signed Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix and Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo on loan until the end of the season, the Spanish club announced on Friday.

"Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for Joao Felix's loan until June 30, 2024. There is no option for purchases," Barcelona announced on its official website, before announcing Cancelo's arrival.

Barcelona loaned winger Ansu Fati to Brighton and defender Clement Lenglet to Aston Villa on Friday to help create space to accommodate their new recruits over salaries and sign up for players to the Spanish League operators.

Felix was one of the most expensive players in history when Atletico recruited him from Benfica in 2019, with a value of 126 million euros at the age of 19.

Unfortunately, the Portugal forward failed to appear consistent in the Spanish capital, and Atletico loaned him to Chelsea last season.

At Chelsea, Felix also had difficulty showing his best performance.

Felix once voiced his desire to join Barcelona in the past.

Atletico said Felix had signed a two-year contract extension, which tied him up there until 2029.

Barca later confirmed Cancelo's arrival on loan, also without a purchase option.

The club needs a right-back specialist, after often using center-back Jules Kunde at that position during last season.

The Portuguese player was an important figure for City coach Pep Guardiola in the previous few years, when he led The Citizens to win two Premier League titles.

Cancelo signed a five-year contract with City in February 2022, but less than a year later Guardiola sent him to Bayern.

Barcelona had a busy transfer market period. They recruited Ilkay Gundogan, Oriol Romeu, and Inigo Martinez, on the other hand they released Ousmane Dembele, Franck Kessie, and several other players.
