JAKARTA - Gelora Bung Karno (SUGBK) Main Stadium is said to be one of the venues for the U-17 World Cup which will take place in Indonesia on November 10 - December 2. However, recently there were indications that the large stadium in Jakarta would not be used.
This was required by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo. Met after the event at the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Wednesday, August 2 afternoon WIB, Dito said that SUGBK could not possibly be used for the U-17 World Cup.
He said it happened because of the agenda for using a stadium adjacent to the Coldplay music concert schedule which took place on November 15.
"Because it's Coldplay," replied the Minister when asked about SUGBK's status as the U-17 World Cup venue.
"SUGBK doesn't seem to be (a venue) because on a schedule it can't," he continued.
However, the Minister of Youth and Sports could not provide more information about the status of the venue for the U-17 World Cup. According to him, this hall will be more competent if conveyed by the General Chairperson (Ketum) of PSSI, Erick Thohir, who also just contacted him about the agenda of a meeting with FIFA.
"So, it's better if we wait for the results of the meeting, later when there is a more complete answer I will tell you," he continued.
In preparation for hosting the U-17 World Cup, a number of stadiums have been proposed as middle venues during the inspection period to determine their feasibility. The Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is one of the most prioritized locations in the inspection agenda that has been going on since July 29.
