David Beckham Reflects On Lionel Messi's Goal Of Victory In The Debut Match

JAKARTA Inter Miami owner David Beckham looks teary-glass as Lionel Messi scored in his debut game to help the team win.

Messi made his debut match with Inter Miami against Cruz Azul in the League Cup match at the DRV PNK Stadium, Florida, United States, Saturday, July 22, 2023 morning WIB.

In that match, the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player played as substitutes. He entered in the 54th minute replacing Benjamin Cremchi who was pulled out by coach Tata Martino.

Messi then became the winner in the 94th minute. The Argentine fired a stunning free-kick into the top left corner to avoid the game from continuing into the penalty shootout.

The goal belonging to the seven Ballon d'Or winner made Inter Miami narrowly win 2-1 over the Mexican team. In addition, the goal even touched the club owner, David Beckham.

The British legend, who watched the match from the stands with his wife, Victoria, was seen shedding tears. He looked very emotional with the goal.

"To be honest, as soon as I saw the free kick given [to Lionel Messi], I thought, 'This is the way it should end'," Beckham said.

"Tonight is very fun for our fans. Everyone who came here to see Leo enter the field. Moreover, doing what he has done," he added.

Inter Miami signed Messi from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) this season on a free transfer. The Argentine international left after his contract with Les Parisien ended last June.

"This is a dream come true for everyone in this stadium and everyone across the country to see Leo play at MLS and perform. I don't have much word for that," Beckham said.

This victory also ended the 11-match record without Inter Miami wins. Noted, Inter Miami last won the game last May.
