JAKARTA - Bayern Munich returned to winning ways after defeating Freiburg in the German League match between the two teams at the Allianz Arena, Munich, Sunday, January 17 evening.

The addition of these three points increases Bayern's advantage over its rivals in the German League standings.

The Bavarian team now top the standings with a collection of 36 points or four points ahead of second-placed RB Leipzig and seven points ahead of third and fourth positions Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund.

Freiburg, whose streak of five consecutive wins has stalled, is ninth with 23 points, according to the official German League website, quoted by Antara.

Bayern opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a Robert Lewandoski goal but was leveled in the 62nd by substitute Nils Peterse, before Thomas Mueller's goal in the 74th minute secured the hosts victory.

The champions hit the net in the early stages of the match when Serge Gnabry and Mueller teamed up to then feed Lewandowski and the Poland forward fired a left-footed shot for his 21st league match this season.

After losing Baptiste Santamaria to injury in the fifth minute, Freiburg looked fragile and had a hard time holding off Bayern's attack.

They did note a good chance however when Rolland Sallai fired a shot wide after Vincenzo Grifo's cross was caught and headed his way.

Bayern immediately regained control of the game and Freiburg goalkeeper Florian Mueller performed brilliantly to keep out a Gnabry strike that hit the opponent's body.

The hosts continued to dominate the game in the second half. Lewandowski came close to scoring his second when his shot to meet Alphonso Davies' cross was diverted from the goal.

Substitution of three players by Freiburg reaped results. Former Bayern striker Petersen was only 25 seconds on the pitch when he took Hoefler's pass to equalize with his first touch.

However, as they have often shown this season, Bayern were able to restore their advantage. Kingsley Coman's pass from the left is directed at Sane who continues to be turned into a goal by Mueller.

Bayern still had two more good chances when Lewandowski and substitute Corentin Tolisso were thwarted by the visitors' goalkeeper. But Freiburg came close to securing a point when Petersen hit the crossbar.
