JAKARTA - Barcelona continues to strive to bring home Lionel Messi. Currently, Messi's future with Paris Saint-Germain is indeed questionable.

Messi's contract with the French club expires in June. PSG is reported to have offered a new contract, but Messi hasn't signed it yet.

The situation raises rumors that Messi does not want to extend his contract at PSG and Barcelona is trying to repatriate the player.

Barcelona vice president Rafael Yuste confirmed that his club had communicated with Lionel Messi regarding the possibility of the player returning to Camp Nou on the stock exchange this summer.

"We have communicated with Leo Messi. Leo knows we really appreciate him and want him back (to Barcelona)," said Yuste, quoted by Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

"Messi loves Barca and this city, so we hope to make an agreement so that she can continue her history here," he said, as quoted by Antara.

Meanwhile, Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez also expressed his desire for his former teammate to return to the Catalunya club.

"I want Leo Messi back. We're working on it, but it doesn't matter to me. It depends on Lionel's happiness and whether he wants to come back," Xavi said.

Lionel Messi joined PSG in 2021 as a free transfer player after Barcelona could not extend his contract due to financial problems.

With PSG, Messi has made 66 appearances and scored 29 goals in all competitions. He has won the Ligue 1 and French Cup trophies since joining the club.
