JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Felly Estelita Runtuwene, emphasized the importance of the role of Family Planning Advisers (PKB) / Family Planning Field Officers (PLKB) and Family Support Teams (TPK) in ensuring that stunting interventions are targeted.

This was conveyed by Felly in the Kick Off of the North Sulawesi Provincial Level Parents' Movement to Prevent Stunting (Genting) 2026 at the Office of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) North Sulawesi Provincial Office, Monday (10/8/2026).

Felly emphasized that stunting management must be based on accurate data so that the interventions provided are truly in accordance with the needs of the target families.

"We must no longer work only based on estimates. Data must be correct, targets must be accurate, interventions must be appropriate, and results must be measurable," said Felly in an official statement in Jakarta, Wednesday (12/8/2026).

According to Felly, PKB/PLKB and TPK have an important position because they play a direct role in assisting families and ensuring that stunting treatment programs reach the community in need.

DPR Apresiasi Program Genting

Felly appreciated the Ministry of Population and Family Development/BKKBN which presented the Genting Program as one of the priority programs to help families at risk of stunting (KRS).

He also invited all elements of the government and the community to support the program, including acting as foster parents (OTA) for families in need.

Felly assessed that the stunting problem could not be solved only through a health approach. Its handling requires cross-sectoral collaboration because it is related to human development, family quality, child protection, family resilience, to the future of the nation.

"The issue of stunting is not merely a health issue, but also human development, family quality, child protection, family resilience, and the future of the nation. Therefore, its handling should not be done in a partial manner," he said.

As a working partner of the Ministry of Finance/BKKBN, Commission IX of the DPR RI expressed support for the implementation of the Genting Program, including through budgetary support and oversight functions.

Felly said supervision was needed so that the implementation of the program could be targeted and able to reach all families at risk of stunting, including those in difficult-to-reach areas, islands, borders, and other areas.

Thus, no family who is the target of the Genting Program intervention is missed.

Genting Program Helps Families at Risk of Stunting

Meanwhile, the Minister of Population and Family Development (Mendukbangga)/Head of BKKBN Wihaji said the Genting Program also helps provide decent housing for families at risk of malnutrition.

According to Wihaji, collaboration through the Genting Program can be a solution to help families who have not received government assistance due to administrative requirements.

"If you rely on the State Budget (APBN) or the Regional Budget (APBD), it is often difficult because there are certificate requirements and so on. Therefore, there must be another way through foster parents whose requirements are not complicated, but the state is still present," said Wihaji.

He emphasized that stunting prevention efforts must be carried out as early as possible, before children experience growth disorders. Interventions need to be focused on the First 1,000 Days of Life (HPK), from pregnancy to children aged two years.

Prevention in this period is considered important because it is a crucial phase in the growth and development of children and determines the quality of human resources in the future.
