Jakut Police Secure 2 Suspected Perpetrators of Religious Persecution during the "The Sounds Project" Music Festival in Ancol

JAKARTA - The North Jakarta Metro Police continues to investigate allegations of religious blasphemy at the "The Sounds Project" music festival held in the Ancol area, North Jakarta.

Acting Head of the North Jakarta Metro Police, Kombes Oki Waskito, said that after the incident of religious blasphemy on Sunday night, then viral on Monday, his party tried to report it to the police.

"Alhamdulillah on Monday afternoon from the Pademangan District MUI could be present to provide a report and we pour it in the form of a police report. After we received the police report, we conducted a marathon examination of witnesses, we called, some of us picked up," he told reporters, Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Currently, the North Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit has examined 6 witnesses. The police are also still collecting other witnesses related to the alleged blasphemy incident.

"Until now, there are six witnesses that we have examined. Then we still want to add for criminal witnesses, we will also examine them today or tomorrow," he said.

In addition to examining witnesses, he continued, the investigators have also seized authentic electronic evidence.

"So there are two that we take for electronic evidence that leads to the proof of blasphemy," he said.

The Acting Police Chief ensured that his party had secured the suspected perpetrators of religious blasphemy at the North Jakarta Metro Police.

"A woman with the initials R and a man with the initials E," he said.

Furthermore, the Police Chief said that the status of the criminal case was planned to be raised to the investigation level.

"It is planned that if it is not tonight, tomorrow it will be increased to a fingerprint process," he said.

If there is evidence of blasphemy, the two suspected perpetrators are threatened with Article 300 and/or Article 301 of the new Criminal Code.

Previously reported, a video recording of alleged religious blasphemy at the "The Sounds Project" music festival held in the Ancol area, North Jakarta, went viral on the Instagram social media.

In the video footage that circulated, it was seen that visitors were challenged to memorize the Ad-Duha Surah at an alcohol booth (stand) that read "New Port".

Meanwhile, the event took place on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

In the challenge, visitors who successfully memorize will get a gift of one bottle of alcoholic beverage.

The incident was recorded by an amateur camera of a visitor and went viral on social media. Immediately the action was criticized by the public.
