5 English Clubs With The Most Trophy In History

JAKARTA It is very difficult for a English club to be the best, especially using a collection of trophies won as benchmarks.

The competition is so tight on the domestic scene and has to face tough opponents in Europe, making English clubs barely easily dominate to collect so many trophies.

Unlike several other clubs abroad, English clubs have the most competitive competition in the local arena. They have to fight desperately to win a trophy every new season begins.

Therefore, throughout history more than one English club has won major trophies on a regular basis. Here are the five most successful English teams in history:

Liverpool are currently the most successful team in England after collecting as many as 70 major trophies in their history. The Merseyside team is six European champions. The number of trophies on the Blue Continent is the most compared to other English clubs.

The team nicknamed the Reds won their first European Champions League (European Cup) in 1977 and managed to defend it in 1978. Meanwhile, their last European win came in 2019.

The three other Champions League trophies they won in 1981, 1984 and 2005, respectively. Their most memorable comeback victory in that period was against AC Milan 2005 on penalties (3-2) after reversing the 0-3 lag.

In addition, Liverpool's other trophy collections are 19 English Premier League titles. They appeared as the best in this division in 1901, 1906, 1922, 1923, 1947, 1964, 1966, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, and 2020.

They have also won eight FA Cups, nine EFL Cups, three European Leagues, four UEFA Super Cups, 16 English Super Cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup. The club, based in Anfield, also won the second caste championship four times.

Manchester United's trophy collection has now grown to 69 after they secured a 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the English League Cup final on 26 February. It was their first trophy since 2017.

The team nicknamed the Red Devils currently holds a record 20 Premier League titles. Their first title in England's highest caste came in 1908, while the trophy was last lifted in 2013.

They also won this first division title in 1911, 1952, 1956, 1957, 1965, 1967, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011. MU also won three European Champions League trophies (1968, 1999, 2008), 12 FA Cups, six English League Cups, and 21 English Super Cups.

In addition, the team based at Old Trafford has pocketed one Intercontinental Cup, two second caste league titles, one UEFA Winners Cup, one European League, one FIFA Club World Cup, and one UEFA Super Cup.

The team nicknamed Meriam London is the third most successful club in the English Premier League with a collection of 13 titles. They are behind Manchester United (20 titles) and Liverpool (19 titles).

The Gunners have not won the Premier League since 2004. However, seeing their performance this season under Mikel Arteta's tutelage it is not surprising if they are able to end the title drought.

Arsenal is the only team in the history of this division capable of a full season without a single defeat. They achieved the sensational feat when they won their last title.

At that time they won 26 times and drew in the remaining 12 matches. Their previous titles were won in 2002, 1998, 1991, 1989, 1971, 1953, 1948, 1938, 1935, 1934, 1933, and 1931.

Like Manchester City, the north London club is still looking for their first Champions League trophy. In addition to 13 major division titles, Arsenal have won 14 FA Cups, 16 English Super Cups, two EFL Cups, one UEFA Winners Cup, and one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

Manchester City has emerged as the most consistent and brilliant team in England after securing as many as six Premier League titles in the last 11 years (2012, 2014, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022).
