Thailand Masters 2023: Dejan/Gloria Pass to Top 8, Other Representatives Fall Out

JAKARTA – Mixed doubles pair Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja has advanced to the last eight of the Thailand Masters 2023.

They defeated Thailand's third seed Supak Jomkoh/Supissara Paewsampran in three games 19-21, 21-19 and 21-16, at the Nimibutr National Stadium on Thursday, February 2, 2023.

The success of Dejan/Gloria has made Indonesia's mixed doubles have so far won three tickets to the quarter-finals of the BWF Super 300 level tournament.

Previously, the top eight tickets had already been pocketed by Zachariah Josiahno Sumanti/Hediana Julimarbela and Akbar Bintang Cahyono/Marsheilla Gischa Islami.

Unfortunately, the mixed doubles journey of the three representatives could not be replicated by Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati. The fourth-seeded pair ran aground in the second round after being confronted by Korean representatives, Kim Won Ho/Jeong Na Eun.

"In terms of quality of ability and play, actually we are not that much different. It's just that we were impatient and in a hurry. From the start, the opponent did keep pressing and we just couldn't stand it. Moreover, the shuttlecock was also heavy", said Rehan after the game.

"Besides, the preparation was also not optimal. Because we prepared ourselves in the middle of participating in the tournament. The preparations were made after being eliminated from the previous tournament. This is of course a new lesson for us because this is the first time we have to take part in four tournaments in a row", he added.

In addition, two women's doubles are also confirmed to fall. They are the fourth seeds Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi and Meilysa Trias Puspita Sari/Rachel Allessya Rose.

Both of these pairs both succumbed to the hands of China's representatives. Febriana/Amalia are certain to lift their bags after losing to Luo Xu Min/Li Yi Jing, while Meilysa/Rachel must admit the superiority of fifth seeds Li Wen Mei/Liu Xuan Xuan.
