JAKARTA Liverpool managed to corner their rivals Manchester United to get the Dutch forward home to PSV Eindhoven.

PSV said in an official statement that Gakpo would travel to England to finalize the deal. They added that this would also break record transfers for clubs.

"PSV management completed negotiations on Boxing Day and gave permission for Gakpo to travel to England," said a statement from Eredivisie, quoted by BBC Sport.

PSV and @LFC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo.The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.

The report said the Reds had to spend 40 to 50 million euros (approximately IDR 666 billion IDR 833 billion) to get the services of the 23-year-old player.

This transfer is clearly a crushing blow to Manchester United. The giant, based at Old Trafford, was previously widely associated with the player since last summer.

Gakpo's arrival automatically added ammunition to Liverpool's attack line. The club previously owned Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

Gakpo had an impressive World Cup in Qatar. The player with a height of 1.93 meters scored a total of three goals to help the Netherlands reach the quarter-finals.

The three goals he scored all took place in the group stage against Senegal, Ecuador, and Qatar.

At club level, he has also been violent this season. Noted he has scored nine goals and provided 12 assists in 14 league games for PSV.
