Shin Tae-yong Appreciated The Support Of The President And Fans At His Initial Match At SUGBK

JAKARTA - Indonesian national team coach Shin Tae-yong appreciated the support of President Joko Widodo and his supporters for his squad when he underwent his inaugural match at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, last Friday.

"I am grateful for the presence of the President and his fans who continue to provide support," said Shin Tae-yong at SUGBK.

President Joko Widodo witnessed firsthand the 2022 AFF Cup Group A match between the Indonesian national team and Cambodia in SUGBK, accompanied by several state officials such as Menpora Zainudin Amali and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

They joined 25,322 supporters who almost stopped singing chants of support for the squad nicknamed "Garuda".

In addition to watching the match, the President also monitors the implementation of the latest sports security protocol after the bloody tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.

"With the new management, protocols and systems, God willing, we can do better," said the President after the match.

For Shin, the party against Cambodia is special because it was his first match at SUGBK with the Indonesian national team.

The South Korean tactician was honored by all the support he and his squad received.

Shin was amazed by the quality of SUGBK and hoped that the Indonesian national team would regularly compete in the football arena which was completed in 1962.

"I love this stadium. Perfect. I hope, in the future, international matches will be held here," said Shin.

The Indonesian national team started its work in the 2022 AFF Cup by winning the Group A match against Cambodia 2-1 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, Friday (23/12).

Two Indonesian goals were scored by Egy Maulana Vikri and Witan Sulaeman. Meanwhile, Cambodia reduced the position through Saret Krya.

Victory over Cambodia makes Indonesia occupy third place in the 2022 AFF Cup Group A standings with three points from one match (+1 goal difference).

Next, Indonesia will travel to Brunei Darussalam headquarters at Kuala Lumpur Stadium, Malaysia, Monday (26/12) starting at 17.00 WIB.
