JAKARTA - The ambition of the England national team to bring home Qatar's 2022 World Cup victory trophy ran aground. The Three Lions were eliminated in the quarter-finals after being defeated by France.

Despite failing to bring the trophy, two English players did not go home empty-handed. Kyle Walker and John Stones chose to take home a cat.

The adopted cat was named Dave and an ordinary stray cat. Walker and Stones finally decided to bring the cat after meeting for the first time at the England national team training ground in Qatar.

"One day he (the cat) was suddenly there, so we adopted him, me and Stonesey," Walker told the British Football Association media team as quoted by Reuters on Monday, December 12.

"Dave (cat) is welcome to join... Some people don't like cats, but I like them," he continued.

Not only Walker who was enthusiastic, the Stones was also excited by the cat's behavior. The defender, who is also part of the team with Walker at Manchester City, even told about Dave in his daily lives at the England team's headquarters.

"Our first day there, Dave defecated," Stones said enthusiastically.

"Every night he stands waiting for his food and it's adorable," added Stones.

Dave is now in England. But even though Dave has declared Dave as their pet, Walker and Stones cannot immediately play together, because the cat must undergo a four-month quarantine period.
