Despite Bringing South Korea To The Last 16 Of The 2022 World Cup, Paulo Bento Still Felt Failed And Refused To Extend His Contract

Paulo Bento said he would not renew his contract after South Korea was eliminated from the Qatar 2022 World Cup for losing to Brazil on Tuesday, December 6 in the morning WIB.

Brazil, which is a favorite of the tournament, made sure to qualify thanks to goals from Vinicius Junior, Neymar, Richarlison, and Lucas Paqueta. Meanwhile, Korea reduced the position in the 76th minute through Paik Seong-ho's hard left foot kick.

After the defeat, Paulo Benti immediately confirmed that he would not sign a new contract. Even though he is considered worthy of winning the Taegeuk Warriors because he has led the Asian team to the round of 16.

"From now on, we just have to think about the future, and that means we won't be with the South Korean national team. I take a break, and then I see what happens after that," he said.

Bento occupied the South Korean coaching chair in 2018. He took up the post after the previous coach Shin Tae Yong, who is currently training Indonesia, left his position.

"I just announced to the players and president the confederation of the decisions I made. This is a decision made and today I confirm it."

"I have to thank them for everything, they gave their best. I am proud to be their manager," he added.

Despite being eliminated, South Korea could return with fond memories from the Middle East after becoming runners up in Group H by beating Portugal and holding Uruguay to a draw.
