JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that he had proposed replacing Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

"I thank Yulia for her clear, steady and effective work as Prime Minister, for her productive service for many years in the Ukrainian team, and I have offered her the opportunity to lead a new and important field of relations with key partners," President Zelensky said on Sunday, launching Al Arabiya from Reuters (13/7).

"I hope that, together with parliamentarians, we will make appropriate changes in the Government of Ukraine," he added.

President Zelensky said a change of government was necessary to "ensure the implementation of a renewed political strategy," but gave no further details.

It is known that Svyrydenko himself was appointed as Prime Minister of Ukraine in July 2025.

President Zelensky did not mention Svyrydenko's new position or his successor's name, but added that there would also be changes among the heads of law enforcement agencies.

Separately, opposition lawmaker Yaroslav Zhelezniak said Svyrydenko would likely take the post of ambassador to the United States.

"That means he will leave the post of prime minister and the entire government will be overhauled," Zhelezniak said on Telegram.

Under Ukrainian law, the resignation of the prime minister requires the approval of parliament, and results in the resignation of the entire government.

The lawmakers said potential replacements include Svyrydenko's predecessor, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal; Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov; and Serhiy Koretskyi, head of state energy company Naftogaz.
