Viral Noise At The 2022 World Cup Opening Match, Supporters Ecuador And Qatar Ribut Due To Money Gesture

JAKARTA - Ecuadorian and Qatar national teams will open the 2022 World Cup on Sunday, November 20 evening. While the match was taking place at Al Bayt Stadium, there was a commotion going on in the stands.

The incident was caught on video and then went viral on social media. Quoted from a video uploaded by the Twitter account of the World Cup Updates on Monday, November 21, the commotion broke out between supporters of Ecuador and Qatar sitting close together.

After Enner Valencia scored for Ecuador which was later disallowed, a hot moment began. One of Ecuador's fans, teased Qatar's supporters behind him by making a gesture with his finger which means money.

Allegedly, the gesture was a form of satire that the home team involved money in the match after the controversy occurred.

In the video circulating, laughter can be heard from Ecuadorian audiences around. Meanwhile, Qatar viewers seemed to be making fun, after the country was insinuated they only relied on money.

After going viral, this upload was responded to by various netizen comments. Some disagree with Ecuadorian supporters because they are considered disrespectful to the host.

"You go to their country, they welcome you with open arms, and you don't respect them like this... it's really disgusting," said the @Momotalks*** account.

The video went viral in cyberspace until a follow-up video emerged. Qatar and Ecuadorian fans who were involved in a hot atmosphere then reconciled, by making a video together.

Ecuadorian supporters also look relaxed, and return to praise Qatar as the host.

"It's a Ecuadorian supporter, and he's here to watch the game. In the end, we're here to watch the game," said Qatari supporters.

"Yes. It makes us sometimes annoyed, but we come together in the name of sports. Sports brings us together. So we are very friendly with each other, I wish Qatar the best, and this is a beautiful World Cup so far," replied Ecuadorian fans in the video.

In the end, the match was over with a 2-0 win for Ecuador. Qatar's fatigue in the opening match was on record because they were the first hosts to lose in the opener.
