Knocking Out Helenius Brutally, Deontay Wilder Cries Thinking About His Opponent's Condition

JAKARTA - United States boxer, Deontay Wilder defeated Robert Helenius at Barclays Center, New York City, Sunday, October 16 at noon WIB. He won by knockout over his opponent.

Wilder was outstanding. He cleared Helenius in the first round with his right.

Wilder's fist was received by Helenius and made him collapse during the 2-minute 57-second round. In fact, reportedly, Helenius fainted from the blow.

At a press conference session, Wilder burst into tears. Not happy tears, but sad tears.

He was worried about Helenius' condition after the match. Understandably, the two are quite close because Helenius is a former sparring partner.

Wilder fears that his opponent will suffer the same fate as former American boxer Prichard Colon. He suffered brain damage from fighting in the ring.

"We've seen what happened, look at Colon. How he got hit, Richard Collon, right. The man wasn't childless. You all don't understand what we're going through, mate," Wilder said, as quoted by The Sun.

Colon, now 30, suffered a life-changing injury. The injury was obtained during the defeat to Terrel Williams in 2015.

The former light-middleweight boxer received multiple punches during the fight. This has left him paralyzed.

"He entered the ring to support his family, but now, his family must care for him for the rest of his life," Wilder said.

Wilder then voiced his concern for Helenius. He was worried that he would suffer the same fate as Colon.

"We don't know if Robert will be the same after this. I'm great at my job, but I don't mean to alienate people from the lifestyle they lead."

"I'm just trying to support my family too," continued the boxer who suffered a brutal knockout loss to Tyson Fury in a grueling trilogy of fights.
