JAKARTA - LPT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) has officially postponed Liga 1 and Liga 2 for two weeks due to the tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium last weekend. The decision was contained in a letter to all clubs participating in the 2022/2023 Liga 1 competition and Liga 2 2022/2023 on Monday, October 3 evening WIB.
There were two letters sent to the constituencies, namely letters numbered 583/LIB-KOM/X/2022 and 584/LIB-KOM/X2022. There are two important points that slop the reason for the postponement of the competition which was later explained in the letter.
The first point is related to the post-match incident in the 11th week between the host Arema FC versus Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency on October 1.
Then the second point was based on a coordination meeting on October 2 chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture and attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, the National Police Chief, the Governor of East Java, members of Commission X of the DPR RI, the East Java Police Chief, the Brawijaya Military Commander and related elements dealing with the tragedy in Kanjuruhan.
"Furthermore, PT LIB will continue to communicate and coordinate with the participating clubs of Liga 1 2022/2023 and all developments will be informed at the first opportunity," wrote the letter signed by the President Director of PT LIB Akhmad Hadian Lukita, quoted on the LIB website.
Previously, Liga 1 had been postponed to an undetermined time limit after the incident. The delay follows President Joko Widodo's direction. Meanwhile, Liga 2 was originally planned to continue.
