JAKARTA - Gresini Racing racer, Enea Bastian, won the first podium in MotoGP Aragon after overtaking Francesco Bagnaia on the final lap. Successfully stopping the dominance of Ducati rider, Bastianini called his achievements like a dream.
"It feels like a dream," Bastianini said as quoted from the official MotoGP website, Monday.
In the race at the Aragon Circuit, Spain on Sunday 18 September, Bastianini started the match in third place. Throughout that 23 round, Bastianini was finally able to seize Bagnaia's dominance which started the race as pole sitter.
Towards the end of the race, Bastianini was able to keep her distance less than a second behind Bagnaia. Entering the final round, Bastianini successfully maneuvered at Turnung 7 which made her 0.042 ahead of Bagnaia and finally came out victorious.
"I made a number of mistakes during the race but in the end I was able to stick to Pecco and on the last lap I had a chance to attack, and I was able to win," Bastianini said of her performance.
Bastianini's victory in the Aragon MotoGP completed his revenge for Bagnaia when they had a tight duel at Misano two weeks ago. This result also made the Italian rider win his fourth win of the season while stopping Bagnaia from winning fifth in a row.
Success in winning this series, Bastianini occupies fourth place in the MotoGP standings. Meanwhile, despite coming out as runner-up, Bagnaia was able to cut his distance from 30 points to 10 points from the leader of the standings, Fabio Quartararo who was eliminated from the track due to a fatal incident with Marc Marquez's motorbike on the opening lap.
The Aragon MotoGP is the beginning of a triple header series that will be continued to Japan and Thailand in the next two weeks.
