JAKARTA - Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson urged Manchester City to sign Toni Kroos from Real Madrid who will be free of transfer next summer.

The German international midfielder's contract expires in June 2023. However, Kroos still turned down an extension offer from Real Madrid for considering leaving.

Robinson said City should take advantage of the opportunity. Even though it was already at the dusk of his career, Kroos is still considered one of the best midfielders today.

"He will be a great addition to any team. He has so much experience and quality," said the former Burnley and Leeds United goalkeeper, reported by Football Insider.

Kroos could only negotiate with other clubs in January 2023 if he really turned down a contract extension with Los Blancos. If so, City could have been considered by Kroos.

Moreover, Pep Guardiola's previous manager has reached an agreement with Citizens officials to sign him. They even tried a few years ago, but Los Blancos managed to convince Kroos to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"There will be many clubs chasing him. I'm sure. Someone will benefit when they have the brilliant player (in their squad) next year," Robinson said.

Kroos has played 371 games for Los Blancos since joining Bayern Munich in 2014. He gave 25 goals and 84 assists in all competitions.

During his Madrid uniform he also won four European Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles. He is currently still the main choice of tactician Carlo Ancelotti in Los Blancos' midfield.
