Mayweather Comeback To The Top Of The Ring February 2021

JAKARTA - Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather will return to the ring with a fight in Tokyo in February 2021. However, who will be challenged and under what rules is still unclear.

The retired former champion has hinted at the bout, which follows an exhibition match two years ago against a Japanese kickboxer. Organizers also provided further details on Monday regarding the match.

The fight will be part of an event called Mega 2021, held at the Tokyo Dome in the Japanese capital on February 28, the production committee said in a press release.

They said the event would feature "champion class" fighters, including Mayweather, but gave no further details - including who the welterweight star would face, and under what conditions.

Last week the 43-year-old boxer shared a video on Instagram that sparked interest about the fight.

"Tokyo, Japan, I will be back in 2021," he said in the clip.

"I know the Olympics will be held in Japan in 2021, but I, myself, Floyd 'Money' Mayweather and my team will be doing something big at the Tokyo Dome ... Japan, I'm on my way."

Mayweather retired three years ago, and although he has previously announced that he will be "out of retirement in 2020", he has not been seen in action this year.

A legend in boxing with a 50-0 unbeaten run, Mayweather is no stranger to Japan, where he fought an exhibition match against MMA star Tenshin Nasukawa in December 2018 - the last time he was persuaded to quit retirement for a hefty payoff.

Mayweather knocked out a kickboxer less than half his age three times in the first round before the Japanese trainer rushed to a halt.

Mayweather hinted online that he earned $ 9 million for the two-minute fight.

In 2017, Mayweather beat mix martial arts (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor in the 10th round of a super thrill boxing match.

And in 2015, he beat Filipino boxing megastar Manny Pacquiao in "The Battle of the Century" - largely failing to fill the thrill.

Mayweather is believed to have earned about $ 300 million from a points win over Pacquiao, which remains the most lucrative fight in history and generates over $ 600 million in revenue.
