Muhadjir Effendy Hopes Athletics Become A Medal Barn At The ASEAN Para Games 2022

SOLO - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Muhadjir Effendy, hopes that athletics will become a medal barn at the 2022 ASEAN Para Games.

Moreover, he said, many athletes have won various achievements in both national and international competitions.

"I see some of our athletes in athletics are quite successful and some have already won international achievements, hopefully later they can collect a lot of medals from this sector", he said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, July 30.

Muhadjir added that Indonesia could become the overall champion in the 2022 ASEAN Para Games, even though the preparations were tight.

Indonesia is lined up to host the XI ASEAN Para Games which will be held from July 30 to August 6 2022 in Solo, Central Java.

Initially, the event will be held in Vietnam. However, Vietnam withdrew as the host due to COVID-19 reasons. Indonesia then volunteered and was finally chosen to host the 2022 ASEAN Para Games.

"Because we are the host and it's actually not our turn, I understand that from a preparation point of view it must also be divided into two as the host and prepare the athletes. But we are optimistic", he said.

Muhadjir also gave moral support to other athletes so that they could give their best in this biennial sporting event.

"Keep your spirits up and relax for all of you, hopefully, we can take advantage of the host's momentum in celebrating achievements and adding to your experience in international events", said Muhadjir.
