JAKARTA - PSIS Semarang failed to advance to the 2022 Presidential Cup final. Their move was tripped by Arema FC in the last four.

PSIS Semarang was eliminated after losing 2-1 in the second leg of the 2022 Presidential Cup semifinal at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang. On aggregate, they lost 1-4 because in the first leg which took place at the Jatidiri Stadium they also lost 0-2.

PSIS Semarang coach, Sergio Alexandre does not seem so disappointed with this failure. Instead, he said, his team had played well in the two legs against Arema FC.

"Overall we played well, with this result we will focus on Liga 1," said Sergio, as reported by Antara, Monday, July 11.

The coach added that PSIS had shown the desired performance in seven matches in the 2022 President's Cup. For this reason, this could be capital towards the real challenge, namely Liga 1.

"In seven games, we were able to show quality and a good game. This makes the players confident to prepare for Liga 1," he continued.

The former Persiraja Banda Aceh coach is also optimistic in facing the 2022/2023 Indonesian League 1 competition. According to him, PSIS has good provisions, namely classy players.

"I believe PSIS will be very strong in the competition later," he said.
