JAKARTA Indonesian racer Sean Gelael and his colleagues still have a chance to win the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) this season with the #31 W Racing Team (WRT) team.

To be able to come out as champions, Sean Gelael and his friends must maximize in the remaining three series. Their safest chance is to win in that series while securing all pole positions.

"We have not lost in theory, but the reality is that our position is also not easy," said WRT Team Principal Vincent Vosse, Team Principal of WRT in a statement received by VOI.

WRT itself just got a bad result in WEC's third series at Le Mans. Gelael and two of his colleagues Robin Frinjs (Netherlands) and Rene Rast (Germany) failed to finish in the WEC LMP2 class race.

Vincent said, although mathematically they still have a chance, their main focus is to perform optimally. He also hopes that his team will not be hit again like what happened at Le Mans.

"Don't worry about anything the opposing team has achieved. The most important thing is to perform optimally first," he said.

Currently JOTA #38 leads the LMP2 class standings with 77 points. They are followed by United Autosports USA #23 with 66 points, Prema Orlen #9 with 60 points, and WRT #31 with 53 points.

Thus, if you win all the wins in the remaining three series and secure all pole positions, whatever results JOTA #38 achieves will not affect the title for WRT #31.

The next race will take place at the Monza Circuit, Italy, on Sunday, July 10 closest. The circuit's 100-year race carries the theme 6 Hours of Monza.

"We have a good car package to win, and had good experience last year too. But the most important thing is to make sure we really win," Frinjs said.
