Like Mike Tyson, This Boxer Tries To Bite His Opponent's Ear Under The Pretext Of Defending Himself

JAKARTA - Boxer Edgar Berlanga beat his opponent, Alexis Angulo to extend his 20-0 unbeaten streak. He won a landslide victory 99-91, 99-91 and 98-92 at the Upper Madison Square Garden Theater, New York, United States.

However, this victory was colored by controversy. Mimicking Mike Tyson, Berlangga tried to bite his opponent's ear. However, his attempt failed.

After the match, the 25-year-old admitted that his attempted bite was a defense against Angulo's attack.

“He stuck out his elbow. I'll do (like) Mike Tyson on him. He kept poking his elbows and pushing them out. I don't want to get hurt," Berlanga said as quoted by boxingtalk.com.

Berlanga's ear-biting action can be said to imitate Mike Tyson's action. Where when he met Evander Holyfield in the ring, Tyson actually bit his opponent's ear.

Due to his bite incident on Evander Holyfield, Tyson was disqualified from the match. Meanwhile, in the Berlanga case, he managed to escape the punishment.

Berlanga likely avoided punishment because he failed to bite Angulo's ear, he was said to be making more contact with his opponent's shoulder.
